History
The Francis Winspear Centre, a celebrated cultural landmark, recently expanded to include a new 600-seat performance hall. Designed with acoustic science, this expansion offers new, vibrant opportunities for live music experiences, smaller performances, conferences, and community events.
Processes & Outcomes
Early in the design and procurement phases, the Collins Steel team identified and addressed numerous constructability issues, effectively mitigating potential high-impact, high-cost challenges. Proactive planning and close collaboration with the Engineer of Record drove success—helping to meet the project’s unique complexities and ensure successful execution.
Special Considerations
The project presented several distinct challenges, including site constraints, complex geometry, and the integration of diverse building materials. Notably, the acoustic specifications necessitated special accommodations for all steel connections to mitigate vibration and resonance. Our Project Management and Engineering teams also worked closely with the Engineer of Record through iterations of the barrel roof framing design to ensure the design intent was upheld through fabrication and erection.
