History
The construction of Dr. Anne Anderson High School aimed to provide an innovative, state-of-the-art learning environment for Edmonton’s growing population. Delivered using an IPD model, Collins Steel served as a poly-party member on the project. Spanning 206,560 square feet, the school now represents one of the largest high school institutions in the greater Edmonton area. Due to a compressed schedule, Collins Steel was brought on later in the design process, but quickly adapted with an accelerated project schedule to meet all demands.
Processes & Outcomes
Collins Steel worked closely with the project team to identify scope gaps, streamline scheduling, and manage risks. Our team participated in design reviews, structural project implementation team sessions, and big room meetings—collaborating with subtrades and design partners and contributing to the development of the 3D model.
We proactively secured materials to mitigate costs and simplify forecasting. Early collaboration with the OWSJ supplier resulted in a $250K savings by switching to long-span OWSJ for the gym roof. When procurement issues arose with glulam for the lobby feature, we devised an innovative solution using structural steel with wood cladding to prevent schedule delays.
